Building Resilience & Mental Strength in an Athlete to Build Confidence, Manage Stress and Injury Setbacks:

Meet Johnny. A Pro Rugby Player 

Johnny (not their real name), a professional rugby player had spent the previous season injured and mentally and emotionally challenging. He wanted to:

  1. Become more resilient and mentally stronger to deal with any setbacks

  2. Better manage high-pressure and expectations

  3. To not let any errors on the pitch impact his performance

  4. To bring the best version of himself to the sportsfield

Johnny also created clear objectives for the pre-season and the whole season, giving him a set of goals to aim for and enhancing his motivation.

A Transformation Using A Proven Methodology

A six-session coaching package with mental skills training supported Johnny in developing a mental skills framework to boost his in-game performance, well-being, and mental health.

 

The framework was designed to be versatile, aiding Johnny before, during, and after games. These skills bolstered his positive self-talk, nurtured a confident attitude, and curtailed self-doubt. Here’s what he had to say:
